Why does another time tracker exist?

Warum noch eine Zeiterfassung?

When I looked for a time tracker that excluded public holidays from my work targets and ran on my phone without forcing me through a subscription funnel, I came up empty. The big tools are built for agencies billing clients by the hour — a completely different need. So I built LogFizz.

Als ich einen Zeiterfasser suchte, der Feiertage aus meinem Sollzeitkonto herausrechnet und auf dem Handy läuft, ohne mich in ein teures Abo zu zwingen, wurde ich nicht fündig. Die großen Tools sind für Agenturen gebaut, die nach Stunden abrechnen — ein völlig anderer Bedarf. Also habe ich LogFizz gebaut.

LogFizz is an independent, open-source project. The €10/year subscription covers the server bill — nothing more. This article is my honest attempt to help you decide whether LogFizz is right for you.

Toggl Track — the gold standard for freelancers

Toggl is excellent. If you bill clients by the hour, its project and client structure will save you hours every month. Where it falls short for German employees: there’s no contractual work target, no public holiday calendar, and no sick day tracking. It treats every minute the same — fine for freelancers, but not for overtime tracking.

Toggl ist ausgezeichnet. Wer Kunden nach Stunden abrechnet, spart jeden Monat viel Zeit. Für deutsche Arbeitnehmer fehlt allerdings: Vertragssoll, Feiertagskalender und Kranktagserfassung. Jede Minute zählt gleich — gut für Freelancer, schlecht für Saldoverfolgung.

Clockify — free but limited

Clockify — kostenlos, aber begrenzt

Clockify’s free tier is hard to beat on price. It covers the basics: start/stop, projects, reports. Like Toggl, it’s designed for project-based tracking. Overtime and balance features are behind a paywall and still don’t account for public holidays.

Clockifys kostenlose Version ist preislich kaum zu schlagen. Start/Stopp, Projekte, Berichte — die Grundlagen sind da. Wie Toggl ist es für projektbasiertes Tracking ausgelegt. Überstunden und Saldo-Funktionen sind kostenpflichtig und berücksichtigen keine Feiertage.

ZEP — the German enterprise solution

ZEP — die deutsche Unternehmenslösung

ZEP is purpose-built for German businesses: break rules, holiday calendars, overtime accounts, approvals, and project billing in one. If you run a team and need a compliant, auditable system, ZEP is probably the right choice. The catch: at €9–18/user/month it’s expensive for individuals, and the interface reflects its enterprise heritage.

Ehrliches Fazit

LogFizz does one thing well: help you stay on top of your own working hours. It runs on your phone, it works offline, your data stays in Germany encrypted, and it costs about as much as a cup of coffee per year. No upsells, no tracking, no corporate agenda.

LogFizz macht eine Sache gut: dir helfen, deine eigenen Arbeitszeiten im Blick zu behalten. Es läuft auf deinem Handy, funktioniert offline, deine Daten bleiben verschlüsselt in Deutschland, und es kostet etwa so viel wie ein Kaffee im Jahr. Keine Upsells, kein Tracking, keine Konzernagenda.
